Cruise lines without casinos

Those who like onboard cruise casinos might see a cruise line without one as a minus factor. But there are also other cruise lines that opted not to have a casino for a different reason. Disney Cruise Line, Viking Ocean Cruises, Azamara, Windstar Cruises and Ponant are aiming at offering something unique in terms of the interaction and education in relation to the children. Instead, these lines focus on experiential activities, soft touches and the environment which is different from having a wide range of casinos. This article outlines the reasons behind the decisions of these cruise lines and what guests should expect during their sail without the casinos.

Disney too has a fleet of cruise ships but they do not have a casino on. This is consistent with their principles of being a child and family friendly brand providing entertainment for all age groups. On the flip side, it means that children will thoroughly enjoy their stay on the ship, but that also guarantees that people who want to be entertained by the casino will not be entertained.

Instead of having space for a casino, shipbuilders created other activities that could be appealing for families. In more specifics, cruise ships-in this case Disney’s ships-purchase assets such as water coasters, themed pools, and interactive play areas that have been directly linked to families’ love for water parks. This approach has positively impacted Disney Cruise Line’s good image and customer satisfaction even though some clients are not fond of using these services and say it is not fulfilling enough for them, also, this can be one of the reasons why customers prefer having casinos onboard.

On the other hand, Viking Ocean Cruises ships do not have casinos on them as it would go against their goal of offering their customers a peaceful experience full of cultural experiences. This option is not about gambling laws or registration problems but about looking for a specific positioning in the cruise trade.

According to the founder of Viking, Torstein Hagen, the focus of the cruise line is business management. That is to say, they plan to develop package tours focused on specific destinations, integration of the local culture, and educational tourism instead of cruise entertainment like a gambling built in as part of the ship. While Viking’s ships resemble cruise ships, they are more of contemporary boutique hotels complete with a LivNordic Spa, snow grotto, and wide-range libraries.

People aged 55 and above who have traveled frequently and seek more refined experiences are the main customers of Viking Ocean Cruises. Such guests are able to enjoy cultural activities greatly.

As a part of the complete renovation plan in 2019, Azamara took out casinos from its ships. It said the move would be in line with there concentration on destination investment and ensured a more personal experience for the travelers.

Now, bottlenecks in the sitting area on Lake Michigan have been changed in to places like ”The Den”, which is a lively music lounge. Cruises have proved very popular to guests.

Compared to the traditional cruise ship industry pattern of entertainment aboard, the typical clients of Azamara have a fast traveling and exploration zeal in them.

Does Windstar Cruises have casinos on board? No they don’t. They’d rather let their guests have a new, personalized and fully immersed in another culture experience. This is not a legal issue but rather a strategic decision to improve the experience of expected guests.

Windstar offers a more relaxed and personalized experience with their fleet of small ships that can accommodate between 148 to 310 passengers. These ships are targeted at tourists who dislike the entertaining aspects found on a typical cruise like casinos and prefer to engage in more unique experiences and itineraries. In line with their brand and business goals, Windstar has opted to not add casinos on their boats to maximize space for luxurious parlors, water parks, and refined dining.

Ponant, a French luxury cruise line, has taken a unique approach by not including casinos on their ships. For travelers who enjoy the thrill of onboard gambling, this might seem like a downside. However, Ponant’s decision is rooted in their commitment to offering a different kind of luxury experience.

Instead of casinos, Ponant focuses on providing an atmosphere of elegance and cultural immersion. Their ships are designed to be intimate and sophisticated, catering to guests who appreciate fine dining, luxurious lounges, and educational programs. This approach allows Ponant to create a serene environment where guests can fully enjoy the destinations they visit without the distractions of a casino.

The typical Ponant guest is often well-traveled and seeks out authentic experiences. They value the opportunity to explore unique itineraries and engage in cultural enrichment activities.
